Blue Ox Shank with More Drop for Blue Ox 2-point Weight Distribution System

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/16/2025

Question:

I have a Blue Ox 2-Point Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control hitch. I moved from 1500 Ram to a 2500 Ram. I need the drip shank from Blue Ox. Can the 12 one work with my distribution set up? Thanks.

Hey Anthony! The shank that comes with your part # BLU75FR hitch gives you up to 2.75 inches of drop, so if your new Ram 2500 sits higher and your trailer’s nose is pointing up, that’s probably not enough.

I recommend the 12" shank Blue Ox part # BXW4003. It gives you up to 4.5 inches of drop, which is 1.75 inches more than your current one. You may want to do some measuring to make sure this will be enough drop.

To determine the exact drop needed:

Measure the height from the ground to the top of your truck's hitch receiver.

Measure the height from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler when the trailer is level.

Subtract the trailer coupler height from the hitch receiver height to find the required drop.

You want to be within 2 inches of level so this equation will help you determine that. Let me know if you need help figuring anything else out!
