Question:
Good morning. We have a 2007 Carriage Cameo that has a low profile Carrier Air V as its only AC unit. The unit cools very poorly. This unit is controlled with a remote and also controls the propane furnace. Looking for a replacement unit that is also compatible with the current wiring setup so I don’t have to try to figure out how to rewire the furnace. I do have pictures if they would help. Looking for advice and recommendations. The carrier unit is ducted only but we would like to have the option to also direct vent into the room if possible. Thank you in advance!

Hey David! We have run into a lot of compatibility issues with mixing and matching AC parts so we recommend complete replacement unless you can find the exact same model. Not to worry, this process won't be very difficult. Also, with the new R32 units rolling out it is best to go ahead and upgrade since parts for old models are getting phased out and they aren't backwards compatible.
For a replacement I recommend the new Furrion Chill Cube. The Chill Cube has a variable speed compressor making it incredibly efficient and unbelievably quiet. It is an 18k Btu unit so poor cooling won't be an issue. At the same time, it won't be overkill because of the way it operates. Since you have a ducted setup you can choose from the following:
-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR39TD
-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR99TD
This has a remote that acts as the thermostat just like what you have now. It can also be controlled via the air distribution box (ADB). The ADB has a large main vent you can open to blow air in directly below it. When it is closed it will force more air through the ducts.
Also, you won't have to worry about rewiring the furnace. All you need to do is continue to operate the furnace with your current thermostat. The two will run independently of each other so you can cut those extra steps out of the installation. If you have any other questions feel free to reply below.

Robin - this unit looks and sounds amazing. And I’m certainly considering it. But I’m still unsure about my old remote running my furnace after taking the Carrier unit out. From what I can tell the control box that is inside the carrier unit is what runs the furnace. Correct me if that isn’t the case. But, If it is the case - how difficult would it be to rewire the furnace to a wired thermostat?
