Updated 05/08/2025 | Published 05/03/2025

Question:

Hello, I would like to flat tow my 2015 LTZ suburban. The RV is a 2023 Newmar New Aire that has air connection and other trailer connections. What components will I need to flat tow? Is there an installation service option? Thank you

Hey Ricardo, thanks for reaching out!

Picking out the parts for flat towing can be a bit overwhelming, but I'd be happy to help out! Here are the parts I recommend installing on your 2015 Chevy Suburban:

- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1718 (with Adaptive Cruise Control) or Kit # BX1716 (without Adaptive Cruise Control)
- Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plate # RM-677
- Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit # HM56115
- 6-Way Connector # PK12720
- Roadmaster Battery Disconnect # RM-766 (optional)
- Demco Air Force One with Monitor # DM26VR
- High-Low Adapter (see attached selection - bracket height is 17-1/2")

I know I have just about every brand of flat tow products in my recommendation, but that's because I chose the best from each company. Blue Ox makes a really sleek base plate kit, but the Roadmaster Nighthawk is my favorite tow bar to recommend because of the functionality and everything it comes with.

The wiring plugs into your OEM wiring so no cutting will be required, and then the Air Force One ties right into your air brakes for consistent braking.

I'm attaching a link to our installer locator so you can see what shops we do business with in your area who are able to help out with these installations.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'd love to hear your feedback once you get your Suburban up and running for flat towing!

Thank you for the information. Just a few more questions... I have an auxilary 12VDC battery installed in the suburban. Is the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect item required? Pros/cons with going with Ox Base Plate Kit with or without Adaptive Cruise Control? Thank you, Ricardo

@HelloJ Great questions! Per the owner's manual for your vehicle (page 10-85) Chevy says that you need to disconnect the battery for flat towing. You can very well do it manually each time you flat tow, but if you plan on flat towing frequently that might be more of a pain, so the disconnect kit makes it so all you have to do is press a button to connect and disconnect it. The base plates will have the same function; it just has to do with whether or not you have the Adaptive Cruise Control feature on your Suburban. If you aren't sure if you have it, you should have an "ACC" button on your steering wheel if you have it. Without the "ACC" button it means you don't have it. Hopefully that helps clear things up!
