Problem with Trailer Valet XL Not Staying in Upright Position
Updated 04/30/2025 | Published 04/25/2025 >
Question:
I have a new to me 2007 Casita 17foot trailer. I have been trying to use a Trailer Valet XL to move it on my smooth cement driveway with minimal grade. The Trailer Valet does not stay in an upright position once it is attached to the hitch of the trailer. Instead, it ends up leaning or tilting to the side while I am actively moving the trailer. I have not been able to keep it in a perpendicular position, which is very frustrating. I bought the universal mount hoping to firmly attach the Trailer Valet to the trailer frame, but am unable to mount it after having a weight distribution hitch installed on the trailer frame, So heres the question. The trailer has a hitch receiver attached to the frame and bumper on the back end. Is it possible to attach the universal mount to the back bumper, so I could use the Trailer Valet to move the trailer from the back end instead of the front? Also, What size battery operated drill is best to use? I have a 20v Black and Decker that runs out of battery pretty quickly even though the battery is newly charged. Also doesnt seem to have the power of the corded drill I inevitably have to use, which is a pain because of the cord. Very much appreciate any help you can provide.

Hey Cindy, thanks for reaching out!
I think the problem is that the collar on the Trailer Valet XL Trailer Dolly with Chain Drive # TVXL2 needs to be snugged up against the underside of the coupler (see attached photo). I've messed around with this Trailer Valet kit before that they silver plate needs to be adjusted against the coupler in order for it to stay upright during use.
As far as the power drill goes, Trailer Valet usually calls out an 18V power drill, but really as long as the drill is powerful enough it won't really matter. It will run down wireless batteries, especially if they're a little older.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Appreciate the reply. My question is about the Universal mount. From the original email: “ So heres the question. The trailer has a hitch receiver attached to the frame and bumper on the back end. Is it possible to attach the universal mount to the back bumper, so I could use the Trailer Valet to move the trailer from the back end instead of the front? “ Thanks for your help
