Features to know about

Push Past Shore Power Limits Without Tripping Breakers

victron multiplus II

When a microwave, coffee maker, or other heavy load pushes a 30 amp hookup or small generator too hard, this unit steps in with PowerControl and PowerAssist to prevent generator or grid overload and boost AC power during peak demand using battery energy. It pairs that load support with a 95 amp AC input and 4,000 watts of continuous output power at 77ºF with 9,000 watts of peak power. In real use, that gives you more room to run heavier AC loads when incoming power is the bottleneck.

Keep Refrigerators and Electronics Running Through Power Dropouts

Short power interruptions can reset a residential refrigerator or knock sensitive electronics offline right when shore power or generator input drops. This inverter switches to inverter operation in under 20 milliseconds with UPS functionality, and its main AC output includes no-break functionality that maintains power to connected loads during grid or generator outages. The practical payoff is that connected loads stay powered through the switchover instead of going dark during the handoff.

Prevent Unnecessary Battery Drain on Non-Critical Loads

Running every circuit through the inverter can drain batteries faster than expected when AC input is lost. This unit uses a main AC output with no-break functionality and a secondary AC output that is live only when AC input is available to prevent unnecessary battery discharge. In real setups, that keeps non-essential loads from pulling from the battery when shore or generator power is not present.

Match Higher-Voltage Battery Systems Without Reworking the Inverter Side

Using the wrong inverter in a 48V setup creates avoidable redesign work before the system ever powers up. This unit is built for 48V battery systems with a 38V to 66V DC input range, and its charger is matched to that platform with 57.6 VDC absorption, 55.2 VDC float, and 52.8 VDC storage mode voltage. In a properly matched system, that keeps the inverter and charging side working on the same battery architecture from the start.

Get More From Available Battery Power Under Load

Conversion losses add up fast when you're pulling steady AC loads from a battery bank. This unit is rated for 96 percent maximum efficiency and 15 watts of zero load power, which matters when the inverter is on and ready even before heavy loads hit. In real operation, that means less power gets burned off inside the unit while more of the battery bank goes to the load.

Video Transcript for Review of Victron RV Power Inverter - MultiPlus II Inverter Charger 2 AC Outputs - VN55VR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a look together at this Victron MultiPlus II Inverter Charger with two AC Outputs. Now this unit is basically an all-in-one inverter and charger designed for serious power setups, whether that's on your boat, in a vehicle, or an off-grid cabin, or even a full energy storage system at home. This is gonna take care of converting battery power into usable AC electricity. And it's also going to charge your batteries when shore power or a generator is available.

Now, one of the standout features is this has two AC outputs. I went ahead and loosened the screws of the lower panel here, so I could easily remove this and show you what's going on on the inside. So hopefully you have a nice clear view there. So the main output is going to give you uninterrupted power, meaning if sure or generator power fails, it's gonna switch to battery power in less than 20 milliseconds. That's fast enough that sensitive electronics like your computers or even medical equipment won't even notice the interruption.

The second AC output only works when outside AC power is available, which is gonna help prevent accidentally draining your batteries on non-essential loads. In terms of capacity, it has a 90 amp transfer switch and a 95 amp maximum AC input with an auxiliary output rated at 48 amps per leg. So I'm just gonna replace this panel here. And again, this is gonna be very easy to loosen the screws, pop that off, make the connections that you need to make, and then just tighten down those screws and you'll be good to go. Now this is also smart about managing incoming power.

With power control and power assist, that's gonna prevent overloading a weak generator or limited shore power connection. So if you start drawing more power than the source can provide, this unit's gonna automatically supplement the extra demand using battery power. That means you can run heavier loads without tripping breakers. Now if you're incorporating solar, this unit plays very nicely with that as well. This is compatible with both off grid and grid tide solar systems, which work alongside solar charge controllers and grid tide inverters.

So this is gonna support ESS, meaning energy storage systems, including something called dynamic ESS, which intelligently balances power between the grid, batteries, and solar panels to optimize efficiency and savings. Another big advantage is scalability. So if you need more power later, you're not gonna be stuck. You can run multiple units in parallel with far more output or configure them for split phase or even three phase power for larger residential or commercial installations. For monitoring and control, you've got options. It can be configured on site using VE configure software, and if you add a GX device, you're gonna also be able to monitor and control the entire system remotely through VRM portals from anywhere. That's gonna be great again for your boats, for your RVs, for your cabins, for backup systems where you're not always physically nearby. So those are great options that this has physically. Let me give you some measurements here. So I'm gonna go back overhead, find my tape measure here. Looking at what we're gonna be calling the height here, we are sitting pretty close to right about 26 and five eights inches. The width, right at 13 inches. And let me go from my close view here. Let's see if I can show you the depth. We're gonna be pretty close to right at about six and a half inches. And this is not sitting on these little pads here. So taking those pads into consideration, that's where you're gonna get your about six and a half inches deep overall. And this is a heavy unit, I was actually surprised I was able to get this on the table myself. This weighs about 70 pounds. You are going to get a mounting bracket to mount this to with some hardware. So I just wanted you to be aware that this is a substantial heavy duty piece of equipment. So if you need help to hold it up, maybe if you're gonna be putting this on a wall, make sure you got the support that you need. But overall, this is not just gonna be a basic inverter. This is gonna be a complete power management system that's designed to keep your power steady and protect against overloads and integrate with solar and batteries and scale up as your needs grow.
