What Curt Crosswing Option do I Want for My 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 6 3/4' Bed with OEM Prep?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/24/2025

Question:

How would this work with a 2020 and newer GMC short bed puck system that already sits behind the rear axel? I would be using the Curt prep adapter.

Hello Thoomas,

I am assuming you have the GMC Sierra 2500 with the 6 3/4' bed, since the 1500 model does not come with the Prep Package. With the 6 3/4' bed, it is recommended to use either a slider hitch or a rotating pin box to avoid clearance issues. However, some of the newer 5th wheels are designed to prevent these problems.

If you are considering the Curt CrossWing for your GMC Sierra with the OEM Prep Package, the correct option would be the Curt CrossWing Lightweight 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford and Chevy/GMC Prep Package - 20K # C89PV. This part number includes both the CrossWing hitch and the Curt adapter rails needed for your GMC Prep Package. Don't forget to grab a set of the safety chains as well, the Safety Chains and Rail Anchors for Curt Crosswing 5th Wheel - 20,000 lbs # C35NR.

Are you upgrading from a different 5th wheel hitch or purchasing your first one? If you're swapping out a hitch, could you let me know which model you previously had?

Hey Thoomas, did you decide to go with the Curt CrossWing for your GMC Sierra, or are you considering another option? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others with similar setups.
