Can Tekonsha Voyager Be Installed On A 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 04/17/2025

Question:

I have a 2019 VW Tiguan S and I would like to put a brake controller on it. Can I install a Voyager controller? Or is there a specific controller it needs? Thank you.

Hello Jeffrey, thanks for reaching out. It is definitely possible to use the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # TK29ER with your 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, provided it is equipped with a 7-way trailer plug.

Is your Tiguan already wired with a 7-way? If not, use the Tekonsha T-One # 118811, along with the # ETBC7 install kit. These two kits will contain everything you need to add a 7-way, including all the necessary wires for the brake controller. You could use really any brake controller with this setup, but if you prefer the Voyager, it will work great.

I linked a few install videos for you below which you should find helpful if you plan to install this yourself. You will also find the link to our installer locator if you want to find a shop to do it for you.

Leave a reply below with any other questions or comments and I will get back to you.

Hey Jeffrey, did you have a chance to check if your Tiguan is already wired with a 7-way trailer plug? I'm asking because your experience could help others looking to set up a brake controller on their Tiguan.

@JeffreyC Gotcha. Well if you are still needing the parts to wire it, you can use the Tekonsha T-One # 118811 and the # ETBC7 kit I mentioned above. That would be everything you need. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

@JesseMi will be adding the power wires from the + terminal of the battery (through a fuse or breaker) to the power connection in the 7way connector, and going with the Curt Echo brake Controller. There has been several comments on the “VW Tiguan” threads that suggest staying away from a conventional brake controller. Thanks for your input.
