Can Rear Legs of Lippert Ground Control System be Shortened

Updated 04/16/2025 | Published 04/12/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 2021 Grand design reflection 150 series 5th wheel. It has the 3.0 ground control system. The issue Im having is the rear jacks have been hit twice while driving on texas roads, which bends the mounting bracket, and in the first instance also damaged the jack. When level, the jack is only 8 1/2inch from the ground. The center of the wheel is 13 1/2inch from the ground. When on my truck, it has just a little less clearance to the ground. The jack cant be raised due to the floor height above it. I took apart the jack that was damaged to see how it was made. So to the questions. Can I cut the acme screw, the inner tube, and the outer tube to make it 6inch shorter, then i can use an 8inch trailer jack block to make up the difference. I realize the acme screw stop would need to be rewelded, and the inner tube redrilled for the pin to mount the bottom plate, and the outer tube indented so it guides the inner tube on its groove. I dont understand how the system recognized when the jack is fully retracted? Does the sensor in the motor count rotations, or is their a current sensor, or what? Tired of fixing these. Thank you.

Hey Earold, I don't have a safe way to recommend you cut down the height of your Lippert Ground Control 3.0 jack legs. MAYBE there's a way to make it all work but with the internal sensors and all of that there's no telling what if it would actually work like it would need to. We do have a slightly shorter rear jack with the part # LC428493 which is 2 inches shorter. This is the right rear leg. For the left rear leg you'd need the part # LC342610.

Jameson, Thank you for the information on the short jacks that are available. I understand that the 2" shorter length is achieved by the bottom plate being welded to the inner tube instead of being held on with a pin. Can you tell me if the inner tube for the short jacks are available to purchase as a replacement part? Thank you,
