Will the Camco Propane to Electricity Converter Work w/ a Suburban Water Heater?

Updated 04/15/2025 | Published 04/11/2025

Question:

I have a 6 gallon Suburban water heater. I am considering installing an electric converter. The Hott Rodd description includes a note saying it is designed for Suburban, The Camco description does not have such a note. Is there really a difference? Can I use the Camco in my Suburban?

Yes, it will Barry! The Camco Propane to Electricity Converter item # CAM11673 is designed for 6 gallon water heaters like your Suburban model. The kit includes both common npt bushing sizes with the anode. A 3/4" bushing that would be on your Suburban and a smaller 1/2" unit that other models use.

Just to confirm the Hott Rod RV Water Heater Conversion Kit item # DGR6VP is also compatible with your Suburban water heater. There's not much of a difference between the two. The Camo item # CAM11673 works with a bit higher wattage of 425 over the Hott Rods 400 watts.

What kind of RV do you have?

Thanks for your detailed reply. My RV is a 2020 Winnebago Sunstar. When I noticed that the Suburban says designed for Suburban I wondered if the heating element includes an anode. Since the Camco has no such note does the heating element not contain an anode? I like the switch in the Camco wiring, but wonder about the anode issue.
