Is There an Internal Backing Plate on the SmartPlug RV Power Inlet and Connector SM77FR?

Published 04/11/2025

Question:

This is a new inlet installation. Is there an internal backing plate that the external outlet plate screws into? And I presume this is acceptable for marine applications, not just RV? I would be attaching it to an Eaton dockside

Hey Kerry! The SmartPlug RV Power Inlet and Connector item # SM77FR only has the one mounting plate that you can see in the attached picture below. The mounting screws install underneath the front cover and it is rated for marine use not just RV.

I do not have any information on the Eaton Dockside, as we do not carry it. I have attached a diagram below so you can compare the dimensions of item # SM77FR to confirm compatibility.

Additionally, there are three colors available including the white item # SM77FR. You'd want item # SM27FR for black and item # SM87FR for gray.

If you have any additional questions go ahead and throw them into the comment box below.

Thanks Jerred. I know the size of the plate will fit the Eaton box, my concern is whether the thickness of the Eaton box wall material will be sufficient to securely hold the smart plug plate just with the screws provided. I had hoped there was a backing plate for the inside that the exterior plate screws into to provide more backing support and material substance for the screws to bite into.

@Kerry Yeah, sorry there's no backing plate on item # SM77FR and our only other comparable option is the stainless SmartPlug RV and Marine Power Inlet and Connector item # SM67FR, which does not have one either.
