Does the New Furrion Chill Low-Profile Use a Inverter-Driven Variable Speed Compressor?

Updated 04/01/2026 | Published 02/23/2026

Question:

Hi there! Id like to know more about this unit. Is it confirmed to use an inverter-driven variable speed air compressor? It says compressorsinch plural, so are there two? Also, do you know the heat pumps temperature range, specifically the lowest outdoor temperature it can handle? Lastly, do you have any efficiency ratings or power consumption estimates?

Hello Michael,

Sorry for the delay in getting an answer, but Furrion was not much help, but I was able to find the information you are looking for.

The Furrion Chill Low-Profile RV AC with Heat Pump - 15K BTU - Black - Ductless # FR82TF does use a variable-speed compressor system, meaning it can adjust its output based on demand instead of simply turning on and off like older fixed-speed units. However, it is not a true inverter-driven system. It still uses a traditional rooftop AC design, so while it offers smoother operation and improved efficiency, it does not have the soft-start capability or very low power draw of inverter-style units.

This unit uses a single compressor. The use of “compressors” in some descriptions is generic wording and does not indicate multiple compressors. It does include dual fans, which help improve airflow and overall performance, but there is only one compressor in the system.

The heat pump is designed for mild weather use and is effective down to about 40°F outdoor temperature. Below that point, heating performance drops off quickly, and it should not be relied on as a primary heat source. At or near freezing temperatures, a furnace or other heat source will be required.

In terms of efficiency and power use, this unit has an energy efficiency ratio of about 7.7 and typically draws around 1,300 to 1,400 watts during operation, or roughly 12 to 13 amps at 115 volts. This makes it more efficient than older fixed-speed rooftop units, but it does not reach the efficiency or low power consumption levels of true inverter-based systems.

What AC do you currently have, and what kind of camper is it on? Are you getting things ready for the next big adventure? Where are you headed?

Thanks for the update! I notice that the model number has now been changed from #FR29TQ to #FR82TF. Not sure if that reflects any change to the unit itself.

@Michael I just saw that myself, still the same unit we just had to get rid of the pre-order page. I updated the part number on the answer. I appreciate you calling that out.
