Updated 04/10/2025 | Published 04/06/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 1996 Casita Liberty Deluxe trailer that I am Replacing the power center in. I am looking at the Progressive Dynamics PD4060KV. Is this a good option for my small fiberglass trailer? In addition I want to add the following upgrades… - 2 Lithium Batteries - DC to DC charging do it charges off my 7pin truck - solar - and an inverter so I can power my 120 devices from batteries. Thanks for any guidance.

Hello Adam, thanks for reaching out. The Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series RV Converter # PD4060K can certainly be used in a smaller trailer like your Casita Liberty Deluxe. Then for a DC to DC charger that can be mounted on the trailer I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Trailer Battery Charger # RED96FR.

For solar a good starting point is the Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System with Digital Solar Controller # 34282181. This comes with a 200 watt panel. Additional panels can be added but roof space is the main limiting factor. You also want to consider your power consumption when choosing your battery bank size. Typically two 100 amp hour batteries would be enough for a small camper to power things like LED lights, coffee maker, or vent fan. For a battery, the Go Power Lithium RV Battery # 34282738 is what I recommend. Then for an inverter the Go Power Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter with Transfer Switch # 34279458.

I have also linked some helpful RV solar articles for you below. Feel free to reach out if there is anything else you need.

Thanks Jesse! One more thing I forgot to mention. I am a nerd for data! What product is best to layer in to the power design to monitor all things consumption, health, solar etc... Something like the Victron Energy GX Touch 50 Display Screen. Thanks! -a

@Adam Yes something like the Victron Energy GX would work for that. I have heard really good things about the Victron systems but we do not carry them here at etrailer as of right now. What we have that is comparable would be the Go Power RV Battery Monitor Kit with 25' Cable # GP44FR. The solar kit I mentioned above comes with its own controller/monitor also.
