Are the Curt A16 and Q20 5th Wheel Hitches Good Choices for a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed?

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/06/2025

Question:

I have a 2024 Silverado 2500 crew cab short bed with the factory installed 5th wheel prep package. I’ll be towing a 32 foot 5th wheel max loaded weight 10,000lbs and pin weight 2,000lbs. We’ll be using this set up for full time living and traveling across the entire country for 2 years putting lots of miles on it. Based on measurements I should be fine with a fixed hitch rather than sliding. Beyond that, not sure what I should get. The curt a16 and q20 look like quality and affordable options but there seem to be a handful of different styles and I’m not sure what the differences are and which to choose. What would you recommend?

Hey Tony, thanks for reaching out!

Choosing a 5th wheel hitch can be pretty overwhelming, and then you add the price of the average hitch to the mix, and I know my anxiety would be through the roof.

You have done an excellent job at paring down your options and choosing something that's right in the sweet spot of quality and pricing, so you should be proud of that! Between the Curt A16 # C74FR and Q20 # C57FR I recommend going with the A-series because the dual jaws overlap which gives you a slightly smoother towing experience and is something you'll really want if you're going full-time for 2 years.

I'm attaching some photos of the jaws of both hitches for you to see what I'm talking about.

If you have any other questions while you're getting prepped to head out on this adventure (or even while you're out on your adventure) please reach back out! We love to help people have the best towing/camping experience possible!

Hey Tony, how did things go with the Curt A16 hitch on your Silverado? Did the smoother ride from the dual jaws make a noticeable difference on your travels? Your feedback could really help others planning long trips with a similar setup.
