Will an Air Ride Pin Box Make a Smoother Ride When Being Used With an Air Ride 5th Wheel Hitch

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/23/2025

Question:

My question is would it make the ride smoother if I replaced the hitch on my trailer with an air ride one when I all ready have an air ride hitch in my truck.

Hey Frank, from what I can gather, no. Using an air ride pin box, like the Curt Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC65VR you're looking at, with an air ride 5th wheel hitch like the Trailer Saver, is actually going to create a pretty bad ride.

I'd keep your Lippert Rhino, and continue to use it with your Air Ride hitch. If you wanted to smooth your ride out a bit more, you could also add a set of air bags like the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F2709 with a compressor # AL74000EZ.

This setup will add an additional 5,000 lbs of load leveling support which could help smooth your ride out further. If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Frank, how did things go after keeping your Lippert Rhino with the air ride hitch? Did adding the Firestone air bags and compressor help smooth out your ride? Your update could make it easier for others looking to fine-tune their towing setup.
