Replacement Wheel Stud for 1990's Ranger Boat Trailer

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/05/2025

Question:

Im trying to locate the correct wheel stud for a boat trailer that I picked up. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought there were this many variations of wheel studs!!! About the only sure thing I can tell you about the trailer is its an early 90s model Ranger trailer with 5 x 4 1/2inch lug pattern. Im not 100 convinced the hubs are the original hub. Dimensions for wheel stud are as follows thread diameter is 1/2, stud length is 1.710, spline length is approximately .680, spline diameter is .545inch and pitch is 1/2-20. The closest thing Im seeing on the website is part T050810. Do you think that would work. If not, what do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

Hey David! Without an exact match I would consider replacing the hub so you don't have an issue. Even if the hubs aren't original, they're probably older and this would give you a fresh start with your new to you boat trailer. Since it is a 90's Ranger trailer the best way to identify the right replacement is probably to look at/measure your bearings. If you can add that information in the comments below I will see what is available.

If you really want to go ahead and replace the stud then the DeeMaxx # DE45GR is a better option. This matches the 0.545" knurl grade and, although the splines don't run the length of it, the non threaded part of the bolt is 0.6875" long. The overall length is 1.6875" which is a close match to what you have now and the same length as that Dexter stud.

Hey David, how did things go with the DeeMaxx wheel stud on your Ranger trailer? Did the fit match up well with your hub measurements? Your update could make it easier for others trying to match older trailer hubs.

@RobinH Robin, I ended up replacing the entire hub assembly as you suggested rather than just the wheel stud. As you mentioned, everything would be identical and all new parts. Thanks, David B.
