Comparing The etrailer Anti Rattle Clamp e38FV To An Anti Rattle Pin
Published 01/20/2025 >
Question:
On my chevy silverado 2500 I had a blue ox pin style Immobilizer on my Silverado, and while it stopped side-to-side movement, it didn’t fix the forward-backward play and up and down movement very much. Over time, my hitch pin holes started wearing out, which is a serious issue when towing my horse trailer. Maybe I didn't have it tightened all the way. Either way, I need a new device that stops all movement, not just some. Will this prevent hitch wear and keep my trailer stable?

Good afternoon Stephany, I'm sorry you had that less-than-stellar experience with the pin style anti-rattle device. Normally that setup works pretty well, but in some extreme towing situations, I definitely think the clamp style is better at stabilizing the ball mount shank in the receiver and has a longer lifespan. I would definitely say the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar for 2" Hitches # e38FV is going to take care of that for you and do a better job overall.
This has a strong gate in the corner that gets tightened down, squeezing the entire shank to the inside of the receiver. This is better than just utilizing a hitch pin hole, which allows for incremental movement. I attached a photo of the clamp's gate mechanism so you can understand what I'm referring to.
Let me know what you think of this!
