Updated 01/06/2025 | Published 01/03/2025

Question:

Hi. I have a Subaru Crosstrek Touring 2021 with 4 pin trailer wiring. If I use the ETBC7, 4 to 7 way adaptor and want to use the Curt wireless brake controller can I do this and where would the blue and black wires on the adaptor connect to as their will be no brake controller inside the vehicle. Many thx Graham

Graham, yes you can absolutely use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 with your 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. Since you only have a 4-pole though, you are also going to need to add the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L.

This is the preferred kit over the adapter # 337TC1474P because it includes the ring terminals, breaker, zip ties, and screws for install. I've also attached a quick picture that shows you what wires to hook up and where they go.

Thanks Bryce but if I am using a wireless brake controller where would the blue wire on the etbc7 kit connect to as it will not need to route into the inside of the vehicle. Thx Graham

@Graham Hey Graham great question, so basically the two four way plugs would connect to each other, the white wire goes to ground, the black wire goes to the vehicle battery, and the yellow and blue wires get tied up. The blue wire is not used like it would be for a traditional trailer brake controllers because there is nothing in the cab to connect it to since the controller is now plugged into the trailer connector.
