2021 Toyota Tacoma Suspension Enhancement and Weight Distribution for a 2018 Airstream Basecamp 16

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/02/2025

Question:

Have a 21 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad and towing a 2018 Airstream Basecamp 16. Experiencing a lot of bouncing and sagging especially with a full gas tank, full black water in front of axle, and empty fresh water behind axle. Tow both on road and off road. Assume a WDH like the fastway or Blue Ox will fix most of the problem on road, but assume when disconnected Im going to need something to provide more support? As I also use the truck off road without a a trailer Id want to be sure any helper spring doesnt add stiffness while unloaded. What would you recommend? Thanks!

Hey John,

The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-612-47 are what I recommend installing on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma because they have zero maintenance, and you'll only feel them when you actually need them, so they won't affect your unloaded ride quality!

As far as a weight distribution system goes, I recommend using the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66083 and pairing it with the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286 and the Chain Hangers # RP58305 so you can mount the chains under the storage on the front of your trailer.

The Strait-Line offers one of the best anti-sway systems so it will compliment your Airstream perfectly.

Hey John, how did the ride feel after adding the SumoSprings and the Strait-Line weight distribution setup to your Tacoma and Airstream combo? Your results could really help others trying to balance towing comfort and off-road performance.
