Parts Needed to Add Battery Charger to a Snowmobile Trailer

Updated 12/16/2024 | Published 12/15/2024

Question:

I am wanting to install a plug on the outside of my snowmobile trailer that will connect to a battery charger to charge the battery for a diesel heater and also Ian outlet to charge other items in the trailer. How do I do this and can you send me a parta list? Thank you

Nate, to add a battery charger to your trailer you're going to need to first add a 7-way to your trailer with the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # ET7WK. From here you will need to a wire from the black wire (which carries the 12V), to the positive terminal on your battery with the Ring Terminal # 44-5310A & # 10-1-1.

This will provide a maintenance charge so it won't let your battery die, but won't charge it. To actually get your batteries to charge, you'd need to add the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1240D, solar panels charger # PTW2997 with the ring terminals # DW05702-1.

The other standard outlet(s) you're looking for we don't carry - but can be found at most local home improvement stores.

Thank you. How would it change if I want to install a plug from outside the trailer to plug in at my house- not through the wiring harness from my truck?

@ThankY So you want to add a shore power plug to plug in at home? If yes then you'd need to add the outlet # A10-50INBKVP and run some 6 AWG wiring between the outlet and the panel, and then a ground from the panel to the frame of the trailer. Please note that you'd have to get your home outlet swapped to a 30 amp service since most house outlets are 15 amps which isn't going to be enough.
