Can I Install etrailer Hitch e63TR On 2021 Ford F-150 XLT If I Remove OEM Hitch?

Published 12/11/2024

Question:

Hi, I own a 2021 Ford F-150 XLT with OEM trailer hitch. I do not like how the double receiver hitch looks with the Curt Class IV Hitch C26HR as you recommended for my truck. Looking for alternatives, to have only one hitch receiver and extra clearance. Can I install the Draw-Tite DT35MR if I replace the OEM rear bumper on my truck with an aftermarket bumper ex:Barricade HD Off-Road Rear Bumper and remover the OEM Hitch receiver? Thanks,

Hey Frank, thanks for reaching out. I do have a hitch option for you, but the Draw-Tite # DT35MR you mentioned will only work if you have the OEM step bumper. What I recommend is the etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e63TR. This will require removal of the factory hitch so it will get rid of the double receiver issue. This hitch is designed to work with the factory bumper though, so I cannot guarantee if it will work with an aftermarket bumper. If the aftermarket bumper is the same height as the factory bumper it should work fine. Take a look at the install video linked below and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Jesse. The alternative hitch increases from 5000 to 6000 lbs GTW. Not much. Q: if you think this one will work, why not the Draw-Tite DT35MR? they are very similar.

@FrankT The reason for that is Draw-Tite specifically states the # DT35MR hitch will only work with the factory step bumper. If you don't have that I really can't recommend that hitch since it may not fit right. The etrailer # e63TR is for the factory bumper. If you want something higher rated take a look at the Curt Class 4 Hitch # C14017. This is 10K rated and installs the same at the etrailer hitch I mentioned.
