Bike Rack for Carrying E-Bikes on 2005 Honda CR-V With Rear Mounted Spare

Published 12/03/2024

Question:

What Platform style bike rack would you recommend for a 2005 Honda CR-V with rear mount spare tire. I would like to carry ebikes and they need the platform style rack. I understand i might have to remove bikes to open door but what are my best options? I would like a rack with ramp option as ebikes can be heavy.

Hi Lisa; for a bike rack that can handle your e-bikes and will clear the spare the best option is the Hollywood Racks Destination E Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # HLY66ZR. This has a weight capacity of 70 lbs per bike so it is able to handle most e-bikes. It includes a telescoping ramp to make loading and unloading easier and uses padded clamps to keep the bikes secure.

If you happen to need a higher capacity we also have the Yakima OnRamp LX # Y88DJ. This has a capacity of 80 lbs per bike which is the highest available right now. It also comes with an integrated ramp as the name implies and uses padded clamps to secure the bikes.

Thanks for insanely fast reply . i saw some bad reviews for the Hollywood rack in that the upright support bar sheers off during transport. Do you know why this would happen? I will look at the other rack suggested.

@LisaH any of those issues would have been fixed with their recall but I can still understand your concern. I will say that bike rack companies take that kind of thing very seriously and put their racks through a lot of tests. With the limited lifetime warranty, and knowing the old defect is fixed, I'm confident this wouldn't be a problem for you. That being said, the Yakima OnRamp LX is a really great option with a solid build so you would definitely be happy with it as well.
