Can I Make a Smaller Cut When Installing the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite DT82GR?

Question:
Hello Jerred, is there a reason why the hole length has to be cut so long? In the picture it appears the mechanism protruding out of the hole is only about 1/3 of the rectangle hole length indicated above and other install pics. Is it to have access for other reasons? Can the hole be cut with a much smaller length? Thanks

Hey Allen that's a great question. The manufacturer's typically recommend cutting a larger hole then is needed. However, on the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite item # DT82GR you're not going to be able to go too much smaller. The safety chain loops are what's causing the cut to be so wide. They're on opposite sides of a bracket that the removable receiver attaches to.

Hey Allen, how did things go with cutting the opening for the Hidden Hitch on your Volvo? Did the wider cut end up giving you enough clearance around the safety chain loops? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same hitch.
