Question:

What do u recommend to buy for 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe AWD. I love camping, plan to buy light trailer and/ot bikerack for bike / eBike. Also travel up to Mammoth Mtn in snow frequently, looking for crosse bars and roof rack for skis and boards., What do u recommend for towing? Size of hitching, lighting/wires? 2” hitch or ? Do I need EZ lift?

Hi Linda,

For a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe you'll want the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98843 for the hitch and the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118784 for the wiring. A 2" trailer hitch is definitely the way to go since most accessories are made for 2" hitches and if you had a 1-1/4" accessory you could just use an reducer sleeve. To mount the 4-pole connector to the trailer hitch crossmember you can use no-drill mount # 18140.

You'll still need a ball mount to tow a trailer but you'll want to first check the height of the hitch and trailer coupler to see if you need a rise or drop to keep the trailer level while towing. I've attached a guide to measuring for this below to check out or you can just get an adjustable ball mount like the etrailer # e66PR, which would have enough range to cover the difference.

If the trailer you plan on towing has brakes then you'll want to switch from the 4-pole harness recommended above to the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK44ZR. This would give you a 7-way socket to connect to and come with wiring for connecting installing a brake controller. You can use the no-drill bracket recommend above and a 7-way bracket # 18138 to mount it to the hitch. For the brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is one of the most reliable brake controllers on market and would be able to handle steep inclines/declines from the mountainous terrains you plan to be in.

For the roof rack I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack # TH27QG (black) or # TH56SG (silver) if you have factory flush-mounted rails that run front to back. If you have a naked roof then you'll want the Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack for Naked Roofs # Y27XB (black) or # Y82CB (silver) instead.

There's a lot of companies that use the term "EZ Lift" so I'm not quite sure which type of part you're referring to, but if you're talking about the EAZ-Lift brand of weight distribution hitches you would want to wait and see what the trailer's fully loaded tongue weight would be to pick out of the correct fit.

If you have any other questions or need help picking anything else out just let me know and I'd be happy to help.
