Question:

In reference to: Yakima LongHaul RV Bike Rack - 4 Bikes - 2 Hitches - Silver Part Y02476. I see this is for up to 4 bikes 37.5 lbs max. each for total of 150 lbs. Would I be able to use this for 2 each electric bikes at 52 lbs each for total of 104 lbs. Thank you. Keith

Hello Keith, thanks for reaching out. To answer your question, no, you cannot carry two 52 lb bikes with the Yakima LongHaul RV Bike Rack # Y02476. This bike rack mas a max capacity of 37.5 lbs per bike and your bikes would be well over this weight capacity. The 150 lb total capacity is for 4 bikes only, not for 2.

If you need to carry e-bikes on the back of an RV, the Hollywood Racks RV Rider # HLY64FR is a much better option. It can carry two bikes weighing up to 80 lbs apiece. This rack is for only two bikes. We do not have any 4-bike RV rated racks that can hold 52 lb bikes.

Thank you Jesse for quick response. So, my challenge is that I have a Class A motorhome and have a towed vehicle so I need a rack which provides clearance between the hitch and the towed vehicle. We currently have a rack, the VOLT LIFT COMBO with Step-thru E-bike adapters which we purchased before the motorhome and used with our previous travel trailer and that worked fine but now with the towed vehicle there is not enough clearance for the towed vehicle to turn when rack is in place. We are looking for a 2 ebike rack that can provide maximum clearance so we can use our towed. Any ideas? Our bikes (Mokwheel Asphalt) are 52 lbs each w/o battery. Thanks. Keith

@KeithM Ok great thanks for all that info. I cannot recommend using a hanging style bike rack for your e-bikes. None of them are rated high enough to hold that kind of bike. Even if they were rated high enough, you would not want to put an expensive bike like an e-bike on that kind of rack. It would be too unstable. You will need to continue to use a platform style rack like the Hollywood Racks RV Rider # HLY64FR. Are you using a dual hitch adapter on the back of your motorhome? Take a look at the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10. This will put 10" between your tow bar and bike rack. If you aren't using one already this will be a great solution. The 10" of clearance should allow room for the towed vehicle to turn with the rack in place. The adapter is made for this purpose.

Jesse that is good advice. We actually have the Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" Hitches - 8" Rise/Drop - 10,000 lbs Part Number: BLU28XR which we purchased for the transport of our ebikes however in a sharp turn there is barely any clearance, like less than an inch, which is too close for comfort for me. I guess we'll have to figure out some other way to haul these bikes. I appreciate your response and for your help. Keith

@Kmiller Do you think an additional 2" of clearance would do the trick? The Roadmaster # RM-077-10 has 10" of rise/drop so if 2" will make a difference this is definitely a solution for you. Or you could use the Gen-Y # 325-GH-306 if you want something a bit beefier. This is also a 10" rise/drop.
