Question:

I need to use a rack like this on the front hitch receiver on my 2020 GMC 3500HD Denali. I bought the CURT front receiver from etrailer... The center of pin hole to minimum clearance of the grill is between 7-8 inches. I need to make sure this bike rack can fold up and clear the grill when not in use. Can you provide that measurement before I buy it? Second, I am buying 2 Lectric XP4 750 step-through ebikes. Are there additional components that I will need to properly secure the bikes on this rack? Thanks!

Hello Ronnie, thanks for reaching out. For the Swagman E-Spec Pro Bike Rack # S45SR the distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack is 10". With the rack folded up this distance is 6-1/2". Based on the setup you are describing it sounds like the rack would work fine folded down, but you wouldn't be able to fold it up.

It will work great for Lectric XP4 750 step-through bikes, but you will need a few adapter bars part # S57FR to give you a secure attachment point for the ratcheting hooks.

Is the rack not being able to fold up a deal-breaker?

Thanks for responding. I need to be able to fold it up as my truck is already 23 feet long bumper to bumper. Traveling with it in use is ok, but I need to be able to fold it up once the bikes are removed. Does etrailer offer a different ebike rack that will work in my application? Or possibly a foldable tray that could hold the folded bikes in 2 - 50 gallon tubs?

@RonnieW Yes we do have a rack that should work. Take a look at the following: - Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HLY64FR This is rated for e-bikes weighing up to 80 lbs apiece. With the rack folded up, the distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack is 7-1/2". I know you said 7-8" so if you can double check that distance that would be great. Also, with this rack you shouldn't need those adapter bars.
