Can Trailer Tire Fit Small 8" x 8" Wheels

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/21/2024

Question:

I bought a set of 4 lug, 8 x 8 wheels, for a bike trailer by mistake. I have since bought a trailer that I hope to modify to use to haul motorcycles up to around 1200. It has skinny 8 wheels currently. What is the lowest diameter tire I can use with the 8x8 wheels.? And a 4 lug wheel.? I do not anticipate ever needing to go over 50-100 miles for a recovery.

Hey Randall, thanks for reaching out!

The Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 215/60-8 # AM1HP28 will potentially work, but it is designed for 8" x 7" wheels so my question is where are you measuring your wheel at? The correct way to measure wheel width is from bead seat to bead seat (see attached photo) so if you're currently measuring the overall width of the wheel that would be why you're seeing something different.

Hey Randall, did you get a chance to recheck the wheel width from bead seat to bead seat? Once you confirm that measurement, it’ll be easier to know if the Loadstar K399 tire will fit correctly. Let me know what you find—I’m here if you need a hand narrowing it down.
