Will Rhino-Rack Roof Rack for Camper Shells Hold Roof Top Tent

Question:

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 with a canopy and no racks currently. We bought a rooftop tent but the only load capacity it shows is 220. How would we know it would hold a tent with two people?

Hi Heather; Rhino-Rack doesn't list the static capacity so you will need to check the requirements of the tent you bought to see if the # Y01-130B will work. For example, the Yakima SkyRise HD # Y07436 (holds 400 lbs) and # Y07437 (holds 600 lbs) require a roof rack and roof with a minimum capacity of 165 lbs so we know a roof rack with a capacity of 220 lbs can handle these tents.

I also recommend the # Y02-490B with aero bars over the rack with HD bars. The dimensions and design of the HD bars don't allow for some accessories to be attached and you won't have that issue with the aero bars. This rack has the same 220 lb capacity.

Hey Heather, did you end up trying the Rhino-Rack setup with your rooftop tent on the Silverado canopy? Knowing how the 220‑lb capacity worked out could really help others planning a similar setup.
