Question:
Hi I’m buying a used camper shell made by leer that has a mounting for a roof rack but missing the rail system….they seem to attach to a horizontal metal bar at each of the four points of the system….one on each corner of the truck cap roof….any idea what this may be…. Thanks so much for any help you can provide

Hey, I totally get why you’re pausing here. The last thing you want is to buy the wrong parts, start drilling into that Leer cap, and end up with something that doesn’t seal or fit right.
From what you’re describing, those metal pieces at the four corners sound like they could be leftover mounting points from an older or specific rack system that used fixed connection points instead of full-length tracks. Unfortunately, without knowing the exact system they came from, there isn’t a reliable way to match new components to those mounts, and I wouldn’t want you to gamble on something that might not line up or could stress the shell. The safest and most consistent route is to go with a complete track-mounted system
I recommend the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells part # Y02-480B. This kit includes the tracks, feet, and crossbars all designed to work together, so you’re starting fresh with known compatibility and proper load distribution across the cap. It does require installing tracks, but when done correctly with sealant, it gives you a solid, leak-resistant setup and avoids relying on unknown hardware.
Before going that route, it would really help to confirm a couple things so we can be sure we’re setting you up right. The overall length and width of your camper shell roof will determine the best track length and bar size, and a quick photo of those corner metal pieces could help identify if there’s any chance they’re part of a known system worth reusing.
If you can, could you send me a picture of those corner mounts and the length of your topper from front to back?

Not sure, the system I used had two 50 inch rails that screwed into the truck cap. Then the aero bars have available “feet” that attach first t the rails, then to the cross bars. This way you have infinite adjustability between the two bars along the rails of your truck cap. This way, you can take the bars off and use them on another vehicle, which we do with our Subaru ascent
