Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/07/2024

Question:

I have an enclosed trailer dual axles for 2 motorcycles 3500 lbs total Brakes are 4 x 23-027-00. The brakes are from 2015. Maybe 1000 miles per year average. They look fine but is there a recommended age limit on this product?

Hey Philip, so Dexter recommends replacing the shoes of your brake assemblies when the pad gets thinner than 1/16 of an inch. Age doesn't matter really as it's all about pad thickness.

Hey Philip, how are the brakes on your trailer looking after checking the pad thickness? Your update could make it easier for the next person wondering about brake age versus wear.

@JamesonC took them apart and I appear not to have a problem. I did find labels and stickers getting hard to read so I photographed and documented all that for the future. thank you
