What Size Shackle Straps Should I Put On My Trailer
Published 09/15/2023 >
Question:
I replaced the spring shackle straps on my trailer with some that were slightly longer. This is a triple axle trailer and i replaced all of the straps. The springs do not seem to function properly. they do not work smoothly, they are very jumpy. Do i need to go back to a shorter shackle strap. i dont know what the original length was but i installed what i did because it was the closest thing you offered.

Generally when replacing shackles, we do want to keep them the exact same size as the stock shackles. Any difference in length can throw off the suspension - especially on triple axle setups. The most common shackle sizes are 2-1/4" long or 3-1/8" long. So if you did replace them with a longer size, we do recommend going back down to the stock shackle size. Trailers are built around the suspension so there is very little tolerance when replacing suspension components.
If you can let me know the length of the stock shackles, or the current shackles, I am happy to see what we can offer you. Shackles are measured from center hole to center hole.
