Oil Bath Hub Conversion For 2019 Jayco JayFeather 27RL With Dexter 3,500 lb Axles

Updated 02/28/2025 | Published 02/23/2025

Question:

Hello, I have a 2019 Jayco JayFeather 27rl. it has 2 dexter 3500lb axles. Im looking to replace the brake assemblys drums and change the greased bearings to a oil bath system. The part numbers for the brake assemblys are 23-468-469 the part number for the drums are 84546uc3,and the part number for the oil bath kit is xlprolube198kit from kodiak. my questions will these all work together with those axles? they have non self adjusting brake assemblies on it now will it be a problem to put on the nev-r-adjust units on in place of the non adjusting ones or should i just stick with what came with the trailer? Also what country of origin are the bearings that come with the drums from? Thank you for your time.

Hey Jason, thanks for getting in touch. Sounds like you are on the right track here. The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-468-469, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3 and the # XLPROLUBE1980KIT will all work together, and will be compatible with the 3,500 lb axle on your Jayco camper. The 3,500 lb axles all use standard brake size and bearing sizes. Just make sure you use the seals that come with the ProLube kit, and not the ones that come with the hub.

It is totally fine to switch from the manual adjust brakes over to the Nev-R-Adjust. This will just mean less maintenance on your part down the road. it is actually pretty common for folks to make this switch.

The bearings that come with the Dexter hub are made in China. The hub and drum is made in the USA. Don't let this discourage you from buying it though. Virtually all trailer bearings are made overseas these days. The quality control is good. Pretty much all bearings are the same and these will do just fine.
