More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking, even at highway speeds. Disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit with the Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Tandem 3,500 pound trailer axles. And these have a five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this is an all inclusive kit. It'll have everything here you can see that you need to switch your trailer over to disc brakes for improved performance and greater stopping power.
You'll get four Dacromet coated disc brake end kits. So it's basically for two axles. The hub and rotor assemblies right here, they'll have half inch diameter wheel studs. And also on the inside, they pre-install the bearing races, so it makes it easier to install. Comes with all the bearings you need, the inner and outer bearings.
The grease seals are included. The calipers will come with all the brake pads installed in them, and it comes with the installation bolts. And as you can see, we've already attached them. It comes with the caliper mounting brackets. And these are designed to attach, you can see, to a four bolt brake flange on your axle.
All these parts have a Dacromet coating to 'em, which is corrosion resistant. Now the actuator right here in the middle, this is a Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator. Basically, this will hard wire into your tow vehicle and it signals your in-cab brake controller when the brakes are applied, which will trigger the pump and motor on the actuator. So this will create a nice, smooth, even braking with a fast response time. And it is designed to work with most in-cab brake controllers.
The brake controllers, we also sell separately. The brake line kit, you can see up front here, it comes with all the solid brake lines you need, all the flexible brake lines, and all the fittings you need to install it onto your Tandem axle trailer. Now we do list the part numbers for all these products on the product page of this, if you do need to know any of the part numbers that's included. Great setup. Really improved the stopping power of my 36' fifth wheel. Just completed a coast to coast trip. The extra stopping power provided additional safety and peace of mind.
Installed fairly easily, works great. Stops much faster than the old drum brakes.

Nice quality, fast shipment, and fairly easy installation. The brake line from the actuator to the first axle is quite long. I will go back with a custom line in the future, for now just coiled it up. William S was extremely helpful with my order.
Overall a great kit. Only wish would be to use rubber lined SS adel clamps instead of the supplied plastic ones
Products just arrived yesterday, even though i requested packaging to be better (saw poor review comments on this before hand), it arrived in 2 large boxes that were battered to hell and opened up with contents exposed. Much to my surprise, it appears all parts are present and undamaged, going to install over weekend and will follow up with after install evaluation.
