Can A Weight Distribution Hitch Be Used On A 2019 Porsche Cayenne With A Stealth Hitch

Updated 09/30/2024 | Published 09/26/2024

Question:

Towing weight limits are up to 8,000lbs, which is substantial. However, it appears as if a user cannot use an anti-sway bar or weight distribution set up when towing with the stealth hitch. For towing an 7,000lb+ trailer, that seems potentially dangerous. Can you comment or provide an alternative solution?

Hey David,

You're correct that that much weight would put a lot of strain on your Porsche and could lead to a lot of sway. Since the Stealth Hitches # SH37FRT wouldn't be able to physically connect to a weight distribution hitch or any other kind of anti-sway device the only option would be to go with electric sway control like the Curt True Course # C94VV. When this system starts to detect sway it will automatically activate the brake assemblies to curb the sway. This would mount directly the frame of the trailer and would be compatible with all vehicles that have a 7-way connector.

As for the dealing with the weight of the trailer you could try looking into some suspension enhancement, but with it being a Porsche you'll likely have a hard time finding a compatible fit. It might not be as feasible but if you don't have a truck with the ability to use a weight distribution hitch with sway control then you could rent out a truck to tow the trailer with. I know a lot of people that will rent out a truck for their trip to avoid putting a huge strain on the transmission of their personal vehicle or just to make it easier to tow.
