Should Bolt Hole On Leaf Spring Hanger Be Larger Than Shackle Bolt

Updated 09/19/2024 | Published 09/13/2024

Question:

The hole in the shackle for the bolt that attaches the spring to the shackle is larger than 9/16. I know i need to replace the bushing and the 9/16 x 3 1/2 bolt. Is this normal for this hole to be this large.

Hey Paul; it looks like the bolt hole has been elongated/enlarged from use over time. This is something that can happen from standard suspension wear. It should match the 9/16" bolt. With the hole being that large I would say it is time to replace the hangers before the hanger, or something else, fails from all the extra unwanted movement.

You want to stick with the same height for hangers so you will need to measure to find a replacement. The height is the distance from the center of the bolt hole to the top of the hanger. I went ahead and attached a link to all of our available hangers for double eye leaf springs below for your reference.
