Troubleshooting 2023 Tesla Model Y Turn Signal and Dashboard Notification with Reverse Light Product
Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/06/2024 >
Question:
2023 Tesla Model Y. I have added LED light in the trailer hitch for better reverse lighting. It is plugged into the trailer lighting. No trailer is attached. Now getting fast turn signals and improper trailer light wiring notification on the dashboard. I think this is because the only occupied trailer light circuit is the reverse light. There are no resistors or lights on the other circuits. Any ideas on how to remedy the warning light and the fast turn signal flashing? Thanks!

Hey Rob, thanks for reaching out!
From my end the best way to start is adding the Load Resistor Kit # DI34ZR to try to get the reverse light to "look" normal to your 2023 Tesla Model Y. My only hesitation with this method is that since you're only using the reverse light circuit it may still throw a code.
Generally, vehicle-side trailer wiring harnesses will look for the running and turn signal circuits to be active to know when a trailer is connected which is why I think your Tesla is having a hard time.
If the load resistor kit doesn't work then I recommend finding a light solution that uses more circuits.

Hey Rob, how did things go after trying the load resistor kit on your Model Y’s reverse light circuit? Did it help clear the warning light and fix the fast turn signal issue? Your results could really help others running similar LED setups.
