What Is The White Wire On My Trailer Lights For

Question:
i’m trying to rewire my trailer lights the kit I have has two tail lights and they have a black yellow and white on the left and a black yellow and white on the right the harness has a green and brown on the right and a yellow and brown on the left and one white wire that comes off the harness does the white wire go to the white wires on the lights or is that simply a ground wire if that’s not true where do I hook the white wires to on the lights?

Hello Terry. The white wire is generally the ground, and this should be true for the lights and the trailer harness. You can connect the white wires together and run them all to the same ground, or you can ground each wire individually. It really just comes down to your preference and what will be easier for you to wire.
The wire functions for your 4-way connector should be white is the ground, green is right turn signal, yellow is left turn signal, and brown is the running lights. Wire color is not always universal though so if you are unsure of function you will need to trace the wire to see where it goes.
