Earlier I asked the question about the red wire and why it was left unhooked. I moved it to the D slot like what was said for the 03 model year. Is that the same for 06? Because now the amber parking lights are out but the brake lights are on constant when the controller is plugged in. So I need to know which color wire goes to which slot on the plug that goes to the truck. Very frustrated with something that is supposed to be Simple plug in

The red wire is not supposed to be in the block on the harness when it is packaged. Hopkins leaves this last wire out so that the same part can be used for multiple model years. The end user needs to determine which slot it belongs in before the brake controller is hooked up. The pin location for a 2006 is different than for a 2002.

For your 2006 model, the red wire should be in pin location D as shown in Fig. 4 of the directions that were shipped with the harness. Since you had inserted the wire into location A like your 2002 GMC model when you first hooked up the controller, it is possible that the controller was damaged.

The red wire should be in location D for a 2006 model GM truck. 2003-2006 Chevy/GMC trucks used the same pin locations for the brake controller port. To recap: Red wire - slot D Blue wire - slot C Black wire - slot B White wire - slot F You also need to make sure you are plugged into the correct port on the connector block under the dash. When you remove the cover you will see several ports, some occupied some not. The brake controller needs to be connected to the port 2nd from the left on the top row. The problems you are experience could be from having the connector in the wrong port. It could also be damage from the previous mis-located pin when you first installed the controller. You should also check for blown or burned fuses and relays in the fuse block in the engine bay.
