No one wants a bulky hitch hanging below the bumper. This one installs behind it, so the cross tube stays completely out of sight. The 2" x 2" receiver can be removed when you’re not towing, keeping your vehicle looking factory fresh. When you need it, just bolt the receiver back on and you’re ready to hook up a bike rack, cargo carrier, or trailer.
You don’t need to drill or weld anything to get this hitch on your vehicle. It uses existing mounting points and hardware for a straightforward bolt-on install. This hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 525 lbs maximum tongue weight. The install is pretty brutal, but not terrible if you've worked on these cars. The big issue is that if you have a trim that is above a S you have to figure out a way to mount the gps antenna. The hitch is also pretty wobbly, my bike moves around quite a bit on it which it never did on my old hitch on my bmw x1.
Install tool 1.5 hr - looks great ! Took my first mtn bike trip this weekend, worked perfectly ! So happy I have found a “sneaky” robust hitch for my GTI!
Everything fit well and I heard no profanity from the installers. A solid piece of gear.
Feels like a high quality product. Installation was involved but well documented and the videos were accurate. There was no surprise during installation.
Install was very straight forward. Looks and performs great on my 2023 GTI. Love that I can remove the receiver and you would never know a hitch was installed.
Hitch is great. Perfect fit, no bumper cutting needed if you are using it for a hitch rack. Two minor complaints:
1) not enough clarity in instructions and available videos about how to remove the bumper
2) provided frame bolts were too short to thread a nut onto them with the provided washers. Had to buy longer bolts and then cut one of them down a bit to pull it through the frame
