Recommended Braking System For A 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 With Various Motorhomes

Updated 08/30/2024 | Published 08/27/2024

Question:

Hello, I would like a flat tow system for my 2024 Silverado 1500 but I do not own an RV. We will be renting class A pushers but do not think all are setup for air braking systems. Is there a system available that will work with both hydraulic and air system coaches? One that would not require any modifications to the coach since it would be a short term rental rental.

Hey Jim,

Yes, you just need a portable braking system like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. This system would sit against the driver's seat and press the brake pedal when it senses the motorhome start to decelerate. It has a monitor that will sit on the dash of the motorhome and will require a cigarette-style 12v outlet # RM-9332 for power. The braking system itself will also require the same style outlet.

I've attached a couple of videos below where you can see how these both install and function. If you haven't picked out the rest of your flat towing components then I have the following recommendations:

Baseplate: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM86MR.

Tow Bar: etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate # e84ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables included and a built-in rise/drop which will help keep it level between your Silverado and each motorhome.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will transfer the motorhome's traffic signals to the tail lights of your motorhome.

You'll need to disconnect the battery while flat towing so I recommend also installing a disconnect switch # RM-766 (gas models) # RM93MR (diesel models) to make the process easier.
