Would Blue Ox Patriot Apply Vehicle Brake If Vehicle and RV are Stopped

Updated 08/26/2024 | Published 02/27/2017

Question:

So when my rv is parked and i push the brake pedal, the towed patriot will not apply its break since the accelerometer is not on. Correct?

You are correct. If the Blue Ox Patriot part # BLU37TR is not moving the accelerometer would not sense braking and start applying the brakes.

As a follow up question. I have the original BRK 2012 Patriot that was included in a preowned MH purchase. After setting up and initializing the unit, the Manual brake button on the RF remote does not cause the brake to be depressed. Is this also do to no motion or should the unit depress the brake peddle regardless o whether it is in motion? I am trying to determine if this unit is operational. Thanks!

@Donald the manual override lever should apply the brake regardless of if the vehicle is moving or not. So something is up for sure. Any fault codes?

@JamesonC Unfortunately no. No error lights are lighting up. It does go thru the initializing phase where it presses on the brake 3 times after powering on then the screen says Ready. I have not taken it for a test tow to see if it works or if the RF remote will light up when the brake is engaged on the toad. Was worried about having too much braking force so I figured I would see how much pressure was applied when using the manual lever at the bottom of the remote. I may just start out with the gain set at 5 this weekend on a camping trip and try to get an idea if it is just the manual button on the remote is not working and hopefully see where the setting should be for best response…if it even works. Appreciate you responding. I also purchased the Roadmaster All Terrain 2 tow bar from the seller of the RV and then got the baseplate and wiring for my lights for my F150 from you guys. Install went perfect and am very happy with the results. Was just hoping I would not have to shell out another $1300+ for a new braking system. Thanks!

@Donald If you can test it on a test drive and find out if it's just the manual override that would be most ideal. Let me know what you find either way though.
