Updated 01/28/2026 | Published 08/27/2024

Question:

What is the thread diameter and pitch on this bracket? What size wrench is needed for the included lug nuts? Im looking for 1/2-20 threads, 3/4inch 19mm wrench size. Thanks!

Hi William,

The CE Smith Spare Tire Mount for Trailers # CE22007Z-11050-2 has a 7/16-20 fine thread and would require an 11/16" socket/wrench. It does not look like we offer a spare tire mount with the dimensions you're looking for, but you could likely find a U-bolt at your local hardware store that does and would still fit the bolt pattern spacing to mount your spare.

Hey William, were you able to find a spare tire mount or U-bolt with the 1/2-20 threads and 3/4-inch wrench size you wanted? Knowing what worked could help others looking for that same fit.

@LazerS I found a CE Smith spare tire mount at a local store. However, it was at the time when there seems to have been an issue with the manufacturer. The U-bolt is 7/16-20, but the included nuts were 1/2-20. I saw some reviews on Amazon mentioning the same issue. I was able to buy a couple of lug nuts from a local auto parts store that were 7/16-20 thread with 3/4" hex. I am able to remove my trailer tires using my car's lug wrench.

@WilliamB I remember seeing a few of those. Glad they got them all straightened out now since they are good at what they do and their spare tire carriers are popular. And that's a very clever idea being able to remove the wheels on your vehicle and trailer with the same wrench. Can't say I have ever thought of that before, but it make a whole lot of sense! Out of curiosity, what are you towing and what are you towing it with?

@LazerS I tow a Malone Microsport kayak trailer with a 2025 Acura RDX.
