AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this spare tire carrier from CE Smith. Now, this one happens to be a U-bolt style. So you have this U bolt that goes around the tongue or the frame of your trailer, comes up here, you attach these brackets, spin them down. That makes it nice and tight on there, and this comes with a lock. If you already have a lock, there is one that comes without it.
That way you can just use the one you already have. Now, putting a U-bolt spare tire carrier is a nice, easy inaudible 00:00:27 way of getting the tire out of your trailer and in some open, usable space here. That way it's more room for whatever you want to haul. I messed with some other spare tire carriers, and they're bigger and bulkier, requires you to get tools to tighten everything down. This is not the application. As you can see, it's low, and now it is a smaller tire, it's going to be vary on different tires you would want to carry this. One's nice and low and out of the way.
Like I said, it's easy to tighten these down and get this on here. Plus, it's locked so it's secure. Nobody's going to get it.Now, all the different components are a zinc-plated steel. So they're really going to hold up. Another cool thing about the lock is you get two keys.
That means you can put one on your key ring, leave one in your glove box. You'll always be able to find at least one key to get the lock off and get to your tire. This U-bolt spare tire carrier is going to fit on frames of 3" and work with wheels from 8 to 15". Also using lug configurations, this one's 4 on this tire today, and it also works with 5. So it's going to work with a bunch of different tires. Make sure you check yours. All in all, it's a pretty simple design, easy to install, gets that tire out of your trailer giving you more room.
Let's show you how we did it.The first thing we do is set our tire up on the frame where we want to put it. Now, we can line up the lug nut holes with the U bolt. It'll take U bolt and from coming from underneath here, let's put it around the frame and through the lug nuts. See how it comes right through here If you look down here, it's pushing up against the frame. It's exactly where you want it. It's going to get it sturdy when we add these brackets. Using the threaded side down here, start threading it on the U bolt. It's going to take you a little bit of time. It's not too bad. Just some patience. Once you get both bracket tightened down, you're ready to add your lock. Run it through there. Super secure. With it installed and locked up, that's it. That does it for our look at the CE Smith U-bolt spare tire carrier..
