Upgrading A60 Drum Surge Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes

Published 08/21/2024

Question:

I am looking at upgrading my Drum brakes to disc brakes on my 3500lbs axle boat trailer. The first question I have is, I have an A60 surge actuator for drums brakes, what would I need to do to convert that to be able to be used disc brakes? My next question is what system would be able to handle the abuse of saltwater?

Thaks for reaching out again, Shane!

You will need to convert your actuator to a disc actuator so it has enough pressure to apply the disc brakes (like you said), so to accomplish this you just need the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # DX44FR.

As for the disc brake assemblies, I really like the DeeMaxx brand because their Maxx coat finish is rated for over 1,000 hours of salt spray, which is well over what any of the competitors have listed.

The Kit # DE66YR is the standard 3.5K disc brake kit while the Kit # DE46YR is an upgraded 3.5K kit that has stainless steel calipers for better corrosion resistance.
