Features to know about

Fully Sealed and Corrosion Resistant

This Demco DA75 actuator is built for life at the boat ramp. Its zinc-plated body resists corrosion when exposed to saltwater, and the master cylinder is sealed with a diaphragm cap and a booted push rod to keep moisture out, so you can use it in coastal or brackish water environments.

EZ Latch Coupler

The EZ Latch coupler drops onto a 2" hitch ball and clicks shut on its own, even if the latch is already closed. You don't need to hold the handle while you work the jack or line up the ball. That keeps fingers out of the pinch zone and makes it faster to hook up by yourself. After it clicks, give it a firm tug to confirm the catch, then add a coupler lock (sold separately) to help deter theft while you're away.

Breakaway Status at a Glance

The color coded decal on the emergency lever shows red when the breakaway is engaged and green when it's released, so you can spot a tripped system before you tow. Bear in mind, this isn't a parking brake. If you're on a slope, use wheel chocks and your truck's parking brake to keep your trailer from rolling.

Smooth, Controlled Braking

Inside the actuator, a spring-loaded push rod controls line pressure while an integrated dampener reduces impact shock. That gives you more predictable braking even when your load shifts or weight fluctuates.

  • Is The DA75 Demco Drum Brake Actuator DM28CV Supposed To Be Bolted Or Welded On?
Felicia, the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV is designed as a bolt-on actuator. It mounts easily to 3inch wide trailer tongues using standard Grade 5 bolts (4-1/2" by 1/2", and it’s often a drop-in fit for replacing older actuators. Sometimes new holes need to be drilled in the trailer, but not always. That said, you can certainly weld on the actuator/coupler if you really want to. It would just be more work, and also more difficult when replacing it down the road.

  • Do I Need To Bleed The Brakes After Installing Demco DM28CV Brake Actuator On Trailer?
Derek, you’ll definitely need to bleed the brakes after installing the Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV. Anytime you swap actuators or open the hydraulic line, air can enter the system and reduce braking performance. We recommend a good two-person bleed or a vacuum bleeder for best results. Use DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluids. I've attached a help article and video that covers brake bleeding. It's easy if you have a helper that can engage the brakes manually while you work the hydraulic valve...

  • Can DA75 Demco Drum Brake Actuator DM28CV Be Used With Electric Drum Brakes?
Deb, you’d need to remove the electric brake assemblies and install hydraulic drum brakes, plus run new brake lines to the actuator. If you're not happy with your current system, its a viable path, but not a simple bolt-on change. Now if you're actually trying to keep the electric brake setup, you can technically use this surge brake actuator # DM28CV in the locked-out position with # DM93CV. But that would just defeat the purpose of installing this versus installing a less expensive basic...

  • Replacement Brake Actuator For 1995 ShoreLander Trailer With Drum Brakes
Absolutely, Tony. The DA75 Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV is a great match for drum brakes and is rated up to 7,500 lbs GTW. Its zinc-coated steel body handles freshwater conditions well too. Just check that your tongue is 3inch wide and that you're using a 2inch ball coupler. That's pretty much it! You may end up needing to drill a couple new holes for the installation, but sometimes the bolt pattern remains the same, especially if it's replacing the same branded actuator/coupler. Does...

  • How Much Pressure Does The DA75 Demco Brake Actuator For Drum Brakes Put Out?
Hey Alex, the Demco DA75 Trailer Brake Actuator - Zinc - Drum - 3" x 2.5" # DM28CV generates about 1,000–1,200 psi, which is standard for drum brake systems. It’s a smooth, responsive unit that pairs well with most hydraulic drum assemblies on utility and boat trailers. The actuator has a built-in master cylinder, so all you'll need to do is make sure your brake lines and drum brakes are in good shape.

  • How To Stop Trailer With Demco DA75 Drum DM28CV From Locking Up Brakes When Reversing Up Driveway
Jorge, since the Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV doesn’t include a built-in lockout, you can install a manual lockout with kit # DM93CV. This is easy to install without tools, and will do a good job of preventing the brakes from engaging so you can reverse the trailer up or down your steep driveway. What kind of trailer do you have?

  • Will DA75 Demco 3" by 2.5" Brake Actuator Fit 3" by 4" Trailer Tongue?
Hey there Lorna. Yes, the Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV or Demco Brake Actuator Disc # DM33CV will 100% fit your 3" wide 4" tall trailer tongue. Even though the actuator says 3" wide and 2-1/2" tall, it will work because it fits width wise, and the taller tongue won't negatively affect it in any way. Install process will still be the same, you just may need to drill new bolt holes depending on your current setup. What trailer and actuator do you currently have?

  • Can New Demco DA75 Brake Actuator Be Used On Single Axle Trailer
It sure can, Jamie. Whether you're running a single or tandem axle, as long as you're using drum brakes and your total trailer weight is within 7,500 lbs, the DA75 Demco Brake Actuator like # DM28CV for Drum Brakes is a solid pick. I also recommend adding a lockout solenoid # DM11993 or the manual lockout kit # DM93CV so that you can reverse without the brakes engaging.

  • Can I Reuse Existing Brake Lines When Upgrading Brake Actuator On Trailer?
In most cases, yes, Nick. The new Demco DA75 actuators, such as what is used on the Demco Drum Brake Actuator # DM28CV, uses a standard 3/16inch inverted flare fitting. This is what most standard duty trailer hydraulic lines use, such as Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Hose # bh-3mfs-4-5. Just make sure there are no cracks in the lines and always bleed the system fully after the swap. Do you need any assistance with this process? If so, let me know and we'll dig deeper. :)

  • Which Paint Or Rust-Preventative Coating Is Used On DA75 Demco DM28CV And DM33CV?
Good question, Carla. This version is zinc-plated only, without a secondary powder coat layer. That zinc finish is strong on its own and helps prevent corrosion, especially in freshwater or light salt environments. Most brake actuators are either raw steel, powdercoated, or zinc-plated. Zinc-plated is typically what people prefer if they live near water or live in harsh conditions with salty roads in the winter. For that reason, I'd stick with Demco DA75 Trailer Brake Actuator - Zinc...
