Should Spring Bars of Equalizer Get Replaced if Head is Worn Out

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/06/2024

Question:

My 1200 head seems to be worn. Have an 8800 lb GVWR trailer, 900 lb hitch weight. I would like to replace the head. Do I need to replace the spring bars? Replace the bolts? Thanks.

Hey Dave, in general if the head of your Equalizer is worn out that doesn't mean the bars are as well but you'd want to go over them and be sure. The correct head replacement is the part # EQ90-02-1200 that you referenced. If you need new spring bars it would be part number # EQ90-01-1299 but it would be a good idea to replace the hardware with part # EQ90-02-9100.

Hey Dave, how did things go with the new Equal-i-zer replacement head for your trailer setup? Did you end up checking the spring bars and hardware while you were at it? Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same issue.
