How to Pick Out the Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for a Tagless Axle

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/04/2024

Question:

I have a single axle utility trailer that was converted to hold a smoker pit that is pretty heavy. I feel the springs have flattened out a bit and could be upgraded slightly. I assume the axle is a 3500 lb axle but I do not know how to determine this for certain. There are no markings. I took all weight off one side and measured the leaf springs. They are 4 leaf double eye with eyes 25.5” apart. How do I know which I should order?

It probably is a 3,500 lb axle, but you can verify this by measuring the axle tube diameter. For instance, a 3,500 lb axle will measure 2 3/8" in diameter, and would make the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # DX23CR the best replacement.

Hey, did you get a chance to measure the axle tube to confirm if it’s the 3,500‑lb type? Knowing that would show whether the 4‑leaf double‑eye springs were the right match. Your update could make it easier for others upgrading their trailer suspension.
