Recommendation For Carrying a Bike Rack and Towing a Trailer Behind a 2016 GMC Yukon

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/18/2024

Question:

Hello eTrailer, I hope you can recommend a solution to my situation. We have a 2016 Yukon XL Denali max trailer weight rating = 8500lbs and would like to pull a 2002 popup camper 2700lbs and a 2” hitch bike rack 120lbs. The Curt D210 seems to be a close solution, but the issue is that the receiver hitch on the Yukon is 23.75” high and the level towing height of the trailer is 17”. Therefore we’d want a drop of 6-7” and the curt d210 only has a drop of 2.25”. Is there an alternate product you can recommend? Thank you!

You are going to want to look at the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 since the Curt # D210 and others like it are only going to have the 2" drop. The Malone will allow you to use a Ball Mount # C45070 with a 6" drop So the bike rack will sit well above the trailers tongue.

Hey, how did the setup with the Malone dual hitch receiver and the 6-inch drop ball mount work out for your Yukon and popup camper? It sounds like that combo should have leveled things nicely while keeping the bike rack clear. Your update could make it easier for others towing a similar setup.
