Which Electric Brakes Work with 2000lb Lippert Axle and 15" wheels

Updated 06/06/2024 | Published 05/31/2024

Question:

I have a 2022 Cargo Mate 5x8 trailer converted to a camper. The paper work says Lippert 2,000 lb axle but the sticker is painted over. It has brake flanges and 13inch wheels and because Ill be driving mountains and my tow vehicle is a Forester with low tow capacity, I want trailer brakes. Is there a set of brakes for this that would allow for a 14inch wheel? If not, what part would fit for the stock 13inch wheels? Thank you!

Hey David,

Based on the info you provided you more than likely need (2) Brake Hubs # 8-257-5UC3-EZ, Brakes # AKEBRK-2, Junction Box # 3375601101, 7-way # H20044, and some # 10-1-1 to go from the junction box to the brake magnets. You're going to need some misc butt connectors, and ring terminals for the install as well.

This will work with up to 15" wheels, and you can reuse your current wheels as long as they're the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

If you can send me the part number from the back of your current idler hubs, I can use that to identify your axle and confirm for sure that the above parts will 100% work with your trailer.

Keep in mind, you'll also need a brake controller like the # 90195, and a functional 7-way connector on your tow vehicle.
