Recommended Spare Tire Carrier For A Class C Motorhome With 16" 8-Lug Wheels

Updated 06/19/2024 | Published 05/29/2024

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford E350 cutaway chassis Class C RV dually. I am very interested in this tire carrier. Assuming I am measuring my wheel correctly this carrier should work for me. The wheel is 8 lug, 16 inch diameter. Top hole to center the 3 3/4inch seems fine. Widest bottom holes will be 6 1/2 outside edge to outside edge. Preferred bottom mount holes are 5inch out edge to out edge. Wheel and tire combined weighed 76lbs. I cant do a bumper mount as no carrier seems to handle this wheel. Based on my limited knowledge and measurements do you think this will be my tire carrier? We are leaving on a very long trip 6/10/24 and I have to do something.

Hey Robert,

The etrailer Spare Tire Mount for Hitch # e98ZR unfortunately only fits bolt patterns up to 6 on 5.5" so it's not going to work with your 8-lug wheels. You would need a carrier like the Roadmaster Hitch Spare Tire Mount # RM-195225 instead, which can fit all bolt patterns and 16" - 24-1/2" wheels. This is also hitch mounted so you'd pop in right into the trailer hitch and secure it with the included anti-rattle hitch pin. It has a pivoting function and lever to help making lifting/lower heavy spare tires easy.

I had researched reviews on this tire carrier and my wheel fit perfectly. Mounted on RV and have traveled 4500 miles, no issues.
