Budget Friendly Flat Tow Setup and Trailer Hitch for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Updated 04/28/2024 | Published 04/26/2024

Question:

I have a motorhome and I would like to flat tow my 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee. Can you tell me the most budget friendly setup of components to do this? If you could also include a rear hitch option for the jeep. Thanks.

Flat towing isn't cheap so I will do my best to give you good options that are also budget friendly for your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm assuming you want to apply the same idea to the trailer hitch. To flat tow your Jeep you will need a tow bar, base plate kit, safety cables, wiring, and a supplemental braking system. I recommend the following:

-Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521440-5

-Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-520

-RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs # RM-643

-Flint Hill Goods Magnetic Tow Lights - Red/Amber LEDs # FHG96ZR

OR

-Curt Universal Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # C63CR (if you want to use your vehicle lights)

-Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39530

You will also need a high-low adapter. I have attached an article below which explains how to measure. There is a link to all of our available adapters in the article.

For a trailer hitch, if you don't mind the cross tube hanging down at the rear the best option is the etrailer # e98901. If you would rather have a concealed cross tube where only the receiver is hanging down then the # 75699 is the best choice. If you have the removable bumper panel for a hitch then we also have the # DT38MR which would be completely hidden in the bumper like the OEM hitch.
